Phi Kappa Phi Accepting Applications for Excellence in Innovation Award
If your university is enacting powerful and positive change, you might want to listen up.
Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective collegiate honor society that spans all academic disciplines, is now accepting applications for the 2020 Excellence in Innovation Award.
The honor society has been involved in awarding fellowships and grants to chapter campuses since 1932, and currently allocates nearly $1 million a year in recognizing 355 individuals. Its mission is simply stated in a recent press release: “to recognize and promote academic excellence in all fields of higher education and engage the community of scholars in service to others.”
It currently inducts about 30,000 individuals, including students, faculty and alumni, and has chapters on over 300 colleges and universities. Membership is by invitation only to the top 10 percent of seniors and graduate students, as well as 7.5 percent of juniors.
According to a recent press release, the Excellence in Innovation Award recognizes a single college or university “for achievement in finding powerful substantive solutions to improve the lives of others and create systematic large-scale change.”
The award is only awarded each biennium, but the winning institution will receive $100,000.
According to Dr. Mary Todd, the Society’s executive director, “We have been gratified by the interest we’ve received from a diversity of institutions of higher learning in our innovation award competitions. Created to lift up and affirm the innovations for which colleges and universities are known – whether on their campuses, in their communities or beyond – the award serves to extend Phi Kappa Phi’s mission to recognize and advance excellence.”
First awarded to Tulane University in 2016, the Excellence in Innovation Award is the only award that currently exists for institutions.
For those interested in applying, the deadline is December 11th of this year. For more information on eligibility criteria, deadlines and eligibility, visit www.PhiKappaPhi.org/Innovation.
