3 Reasons To Fill Out Your Student Feedback Forms

By Ashley Paskill on November 26, 2017

It’s that time of the semester again! Student Feedback Forms are available at Temple University. Professors, in semesters past, have set apart time to fill them out in class and the university has bombarded student inboxes to beg us to fill them out. But are these seemingly tedious forms that important? Will those that fill it out reap benefits? In short, yes and yes. The feedback forms are important to shaping courses for future students.

1. Professors use the information from the feedback forms to shape their courses in the future.

While it may not seem like it, professors really do care about what their students think about the classes they teach. They want to make sure their students are truly getting something out of the class or if the students feel like the coursework seems like busywork. If they notice a pattern of good things, they will continue to do those things. Likewise, if there is a pattern of things students think could be done differently, the professor will most likely make a change. They will also make adjustments if the students feel like the class isn’t fitting what the course description said.

2. Students can access data from previous semesters when signing up for classes.

When you go to register for classes for the next semester, you will be given access to the data from the recent student feedback forms. This information can be used to help you decide what professors are the best fit for you and if the workload in the classes will be too much. This helps you as well as other students. It is important to be honest in your feedback for this reason. Your feedback can help to shape a fellow students’ experience and can be used to help you out in your course decisions as well. Only students who fill out their feedback forms are given access to this data.

3. Submitting your forms will have no impact on your final grades in your classes.

While it may be intimidating to tell professors how you truly feel about a class and how they will react, there is nothing to worry about with the student feedback forms. The data from the forms aren’t given to professors until after the semester is over and there is no identifying information sent with the forms when given to professors. The forms are a way to anonymously state any problems you may have had with a professor or course without worrying about repercussions, such as grades. This allows you to be open and honest and provide good feedback.
