Ball State frats voluntarily ban alcohol at events
In an interesting Greek Life development, 13 fraternities at Ball State University have signed a letter to ban alcohol from any events they host or co-host for the remainder of 2017.
A report from WIBC says “during this time period the university and the fraternities will embark on an different education programs for all active fraternity members. These programs will focus on sexual violence, alcohol education, hazing and bystander intervention.”
Kathy Wolf, vice-president of communication and marketing for the Muncie, IN school, told WIBC that “It’s not a singular event that caused this. This is a trend or a pattern of behaviors that we’ve seen that is unacceptable.”
The move has stirred up some negative emotions:

No frat boy can break my heart but Ball State’s frat probation just did. #RIPRiverside

Once again, Ball State has shown their true colors as a reactive school instead of a proactive school. Absolutely pathetic.

I’m disappointed at Ball State for attempting to sweep this under the rug. I’m disappointed at the frats, who’ve been keeping sexual assault secrets for their bros. I’m disappointed at the students, men and women alike, who only see this as an inconvenience to their partying.

Some were taking a positive outlook:
Say what you want about their response, but at least Ball State is trying to DO something. Y’all ridiculous.

As a fraternity man AND a victim of sexual assault, I can say that I’m proud of Ball State and their decision
