If you live in Northeast Ohio, you may have recently experienced the load of snow that overswept the area. Although it rarely happens, colleges do close in extreme cases. If you are experiencing a snow day, the rest is probably much appreciated, but it is very easy to get bored. So while you are snowed in, you may want to get a few things done that you normally wouldn’t because of your school schedule.

DIY crafts

You can go online and find a plethora of projects that can be done with the materials you have in your home. Websites like Pinterest have a ton of ideas. If there is a particular project you’ve been waiting to do, now is the time. While you are snowed in, there is more than enough opportunity to get the project done or at least get started. If you don’t have all the materials you need, and you can’t really get out the house, maybe you can find something to replace it.

Cook/bake

You ever have a recipe you’ve been dying to try? You might even have all the ingredients that you need already. A snow day is the perfect day to cook and bake away. You have the time, so why not take advantage of it? You could cook for an old friend and use that to catch up. You could cook for your significant other and enjoy the new recipe together. You could even bake some goodies and send them down to the shelter for people in need. You could also use this time to do some meal prepping for the rest of the week. Meal prepping can save you a lot of time that you may not have during the week.

Netflix

Sometimes school can become so overwhelming and time-consuming that you don’t really have the time to truly relax like you want to. A snow day is the perfect time to catch up on the Netflix series you have been neglecting. You can wrap yourself up in a blanket and binge watch the day away if you want to. Make yourself some delicious hot chocolate and turn on your favorite show. You can even contact your friends and ask them for show recommendations.

Google also has Netflix series suggestions. Hulu is equally as popular, so if you want to watch a show on there you most certainly can. If you don’t have an account, you can sign up for a subscription and most of the time you will get at least one week free. Binge watch your shows during this time, but don’t forget to cancel your subscription if you don’t want to be charged!

Clean

Some college students have a hard time keeping their space clean because of time consumption with other activities or even just laziness. When you are snowed in, you can take some time to clean up your place. Making your home nice and neat has some perks to it, especially if you happen to have unexpected company. Since you probably don’t have any other commitments, you can take as much time as you need in order to thoroughly clean and make the place look as good as you want.

Sleep

Sometimes you just need time to catch up on all of the sleep you have been missing due to getting home late or not sleeping well. You could take short naps throughout the day. This will help you feel relaxed and rejuvenated. Sleep is a lot more important than a lot of people give it credit for. Sleep is what you need to refresh and also where your body heals itself and builds your immune system. If you have been feeling sore lately or getting sick constantly, maybe it is time to get more sleep.

Playing schoolwork catch up

Although the thought may cause some students to cringe, snow days are a good time to catch up on some of the schoolwork you have been procrastinating. Maybe could use some extra time to study for an upcoming exam. Now you have it. The common temptation may be to continue to put it off since you have all day, but most likely you’ll never come back to it. That is why it is better to plan out what you need to work on and actually do it. Snow days give you the opportunity to get the work done if you choose to use your time wisely.

Read

During a snow day, you can go ahead and start the book you’ve been wanting to read. Books are a nice, relaxing pastime for some students and a snow day is the perfect time to dive into one and if you have a book just lying around, great. If you can somehow get out of your house, you could take a trip to the local library and just spend your time there.
