Homework is from the textbook and can be hard. You have to go to class because all of his notes are on the chalkboard and he doesn't post anything online. He's VERY old school. He assumes you understand just about everything because its easy to him.
Pros: Interested in student success
Cons: Couldn't make up for how boring the class was.
Pros: Knows his material and is very helpful.
Cons: Lectures are often very dry and filled with equations.
Pros: TOO SMART
Cons: QUIET, Can't explain, can't answer questions, ridiculously frustrating
I'd give this guy 0/5 stars if I could...
Pros: He is a really good an patient teacher who enjoys statistics. He also knows his stuff, so if you have any question about it he can answer it. He gives review sessions every Thursday evening to go over homework, and will solve any problem if you ask.
Cons: There is a ton of work for this class. Homework every week, and three tests and a final.
The material is presented in an old school way (overhead projector) but I guess you can expect that from an old school guy like Marion. The exams follow closely with what is taught in class, so if you attend lecture and take notes, this class isn't too tough.
Pros: He has been teaching 4714 forever and knows his stuff. He will hold weekly homework sessions and will answer every question you have.
Cons: His class is flat out boring, partly due to the material. He writes on projectors the whole time and just talks about what he is doing in a very monotone voice.
Dr. Reynolds is an effective professor. There is a lot of material to cover in the semester, and he will admit "it's not the most riveting material". However, the exams are very similar to the samples he hands out, and the material isn't too hard to grasp. Homework is graded pretty strictly, but he is very generous with partial credit on the tests.
Dr. Reynolds is an outstanding instructor. His class is demanding and the exams are hard, but you will want to live up to his expectations. The best way to prepare for his exams is to take the olds ones he gives out as preparation material. The week before each exam week, I took one a day. The week of the exam, I re-took 2/day. It paid off. Each exam is given at 6:00 PM at night so you can have extra time. You'll need it. The exams take 3-4 hours, on average, to complete. I only finished one in 2-1/2 hours.
Dr. Reynolds is extremely competent, both in the material and teaching it. He illuminates everything with examples. Homework comes with every class. Although he never grades it, you need to do it to ensure you pass. However, he gives you the appropriate chapter from the solutions manual so you can check your work. He also provides copies of old exams (with solutions) so you can practice. This class takes a lot of work, but you will get the grade you earn.
