How to Dress for Your Ideal Valentine's Day

By Amanda Cohen on January 30, 2017

There are a few types of people on Valentine’s Day. We’ve got the hot and heavy couples who are probably going to get married, the new couples still in the honeymoon phase, and the single and ready for a Pringle people (shout out to Tatum Mannion for coining this phrase).

So, the real question is what are we all going to wear for the big day? Well, there isn’t one sure-fire answer to this question. What you wear really depends on what your plans are. Because of this, I have created a few different scenarios on what to wear for the (drum roll please) big day! Read on to find out!

Dinner at a Nice Restaurant: If you are treating yourself or you and your significant other are treating yourselves to a nice dinner, you want to make sure that you dress for the occasion. Since you and, maybe your date, are wining and dining, you want to make sure that your outfit screams classiness and sophistication.

Ladies, this is the perfect time to whip out your new sweater vest with your over-the-knee boots. Or, if you prefer to wear skirts, try a leather or suede skirt with a pair of black tights underneath with a tight (or loose depending on the style of the skirt) turtleneck sweater to accompany it. Another go-to outfit for nice restaurants is leather pants and a silky top with a cute pair of stiletto-booties.

Dinner at a Casual Restaurant: There is nothing wrong with eating Valentine’s Day dinner at a casual restaurant because, let’s be real, most casual restaurants have better food than fancy restaurants. Dinner at a casual restaurant is the perfect time for you to unhang your favorite jeans and pair them with a chunky sweater, a loose, less chunky, long-sleeved shirt, and a cute pair of boots (they can be booties, ankle boots, knee-high boots, or over-the-knee boots).

If you want, you can wear a casual sweater dress or a fun pair of silky joggers with a tank and a leather jacket. If you’re going to a casual restaurant, you can really dress up to the point of going to a fancy restaurant, or dress as casual as you would for a dinner at home.

Ladies’ Night In: My friends and I tend to have a ladies’ night in every Sunday. Usually, one of us cooks dinner or we all bring one dish, sort of like a potluck. Want to hear the best part about a ladies’ night in? The best part about it is that you can wear sweatpants or your pajamas! You can even jazz it up for Valentine’s Day by purchasing matching, cute, snuggly pajamas and then take a fun ~Instagram~ of the event. No significant other, no problem, girl’s night in is always the answer.

Ladies’ Night Out: The definition of “ladies’ night out” is pretty loose because it honestly means anything. You could have a ladies’ night out at the nice restaurant atmosphere listed above as well as the casual restaurant atmosphere. When choosing what to wear for this exciting night, look at the two options above about what to wear at certain restaurants.

However, if you are like my friends and I, you might spend your ladies’ night out at a movie theater watching the premier of Fifty Shades Darker. Now, it’s not rocket science when dressing for the movie theaters; you can wear leggings, jeans, a t-shirt dress, or whatever. I personally like being comfortable at the movies, so I choose to wear my cute, presentable, comfy jogger pants with a loose shirt, a bulky, warm cardigan, and a pair of Uggs (I don’t care what people say about Uggs … they are comfortable and I love them).

Single and Fabulous Look: Sometimes, you just want to lay low and hang out with yourself. For this, I recommend your comfiest pajamas, a thick scrunchie, your favorite granny panties, no bra, and a pair of your fuzziest, coziest socks. To be honest, I wear this type of outfit every single night because I’m all about being comfortable.

So, I am here to tell you that no matter what day of the year it is, this is always the number one choice of outfits. If you have poor eyesight, forget about your contacts, put on your glasses and watch your favorite movie and/or television show in style. When it comes to comfy clothes, the baggier the better, so make sure you eat for the occasion. Yes, order 10 items off of the Chinese menu and just pig out … there is nothing wrong with dedicating Valentine’s Day to yourself.

Ladies, no matter how you are celebrating Valentine’s Day, I hope this article helps! If you are with a significant other, enjoy a night of romance, and if you are single, enjoy a night with yourself or with your girlfriends!
