What to Wear to Winter Concerts

By Amanda Cohen on December 19, 2016

Winter is upon us, ladies and gentlemen, and even though most concert and festival-goers may disagree, there are hundreds of amazing concerts gracing us with their presence this winter.

When most people think of concert outfits, they think of crocheted tops, flower crowns, crop tops, flowy skirts, denim short-alls, and just about anything bohemian. Well, I am here to dispel this rumor because even though all of those ensembles may be perfect for spring and summer concerts, they are definitely not great for winter concerts. So, we are in a bit of a pickle: what does one wear to a concert when the weather outside is frightful? Read on and find out!

Leather

Leather is extremely trendy, edgy and chic. Now, I’m not just talking about leather jackets, I’m talking about leather pants, tops, skirts and shorts. Nothing screams rock and roll or hip hop more than leather attire!

Let’s start out with leather shorts. I know what many of you are thinking … why would you wear shorts when it’s cold outside? Well, (1) you will be inside and it will probably get hot in the venue, and (2) a super trendy way to wear shorts in the winter is by wearing sheer black tights underneath! Wear the leather shorts with black or red booties and you will be concert-ready! Another cool way to rock the leather is by wearing leather pants/leggings. I am telling you that you will look so unbelievably cool if you show up in leather pants and a leather jacket … you will look cooler than Uncle Jesse from Full House (and that’s honestly saying a lot)!

You can also take the leather-top route, which may seem untraditional, but trust me it’s worth it. You can either keep it simple with just a black leather, mid-neckline top, or go crazy and find a fringed leather top (I have one and my friends are always begging me to borrow it). If you choose to go with the leather top look, you should wear black or dark-colored ripped jeans on the bottom (don’t wear leather-on-leather … that would be too much).

Suede

I know it may seem odd to wear any clothing, other than shoes, that are suede, but suede is making a huge comeback. My three favorite ways to wear suede when dressing for a winter concert are in either shorts-form, jacket-form, or dress form. You can honestly find suede shorts anywhere these days and in just about every color and style possible. There are tight suede shorts, loose suede shorts, hot-pants style suede shorts, and more. One of my all-time favorite looks right now is camel-colored loose suede shorts with a tight black body suit paired with heeled booties. You look both classy and edgy in this ensemble, and I promise you will get thousands of compliments.

Suede jackets may seem outdated, but they are actually all the rage right now. You want the jacket to be somewhat fitted and a little bit cropped (not up to your belly button, but not all the way down your torso). The best colors to purchase a suede jacket in are burgundy, camel, grey, or dark green. If you find one that has some fringe on the sleeves for a reasonable price buy it. Don’t even question it.

Suede dresses are so in at the moment. Whether they are long-sleeved, spaghetti-strapped, mid-length, mini-length, tight, or loose you really cannot go wrong. Dresses are such an easy go-to when deciding what to wear for a concert because all you have to do is slip on one article of clothing — no muss, no fuss! Always pair suede with chunky booties and get ready to dance your booty off at the concert!

Graphic T-Shirts

Graphic t-shirts are the best because you can dress them up or dress them down! One way of dressing up a graphic t-shirt is by wearing it with a pair of high-rise leather shorts! Or, if the concert is more casual, wear the graphic t-shirt with ripped blue or black jeans. The coolest part about graphic t-shirts is that you can always find one that really represents a part of your individual personality. Whether you want to represent your favorite band, or just a funky pattern, graphic t-shirts always make a statement.

Here is a list of my favorite websites where you can find the best concert clothing!

With all three of these options you can mix and match and find different varieties so that they suit your own personal taste. Don’t forget to jazz up your outfit with some red lipstick, fun jewelry, and trendy (but comfortable) shoes. So, ladies and gentleman, check out StubHub and TicketMaster because now that you know what to wear to concerts, you just need to find a place to wear all of your new concert-going attire to!
